No one knows what improv is
As I set out to pitch improv classes to people, I’m realizing that nobody has any idea what it is. They all think it’s stand-up. One guy told me he thought it was “picking on the crowd”. What? No!
This may just be a south florida thing. But I think it’s mostly because improv is so much less popular than stand-up, at least on social media.
Stand up comedy is very “clippable”, i.e. it’s to take little snippets of it and share them on social media. Improv is not so viral-friendly, I think.
I also blame all these comedy clubs with the name “Improv” in it. Why does the Dania Beach Improv call itself that? It’s a stand up comedy club!
Yikes. Anyway, if you don’t know what improv is, here’s a clip of some famous people doing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKmeO_QvAcs&ab_channel=rejectedjokes
